What started off as a financial goal to afford the iPhone 3G, turned into a social experiment. I wanted to see if people would maintain their communication with me even though I didn’t have a phone. Despite Facebook etc. being a good alternative, it just didn’t provide the realtime connection that cell phones do today.
I’m not holding a grudge against anyone, but I truly did feel cut off from the world for those 5 months. I did it to myself, but it was for the right reasons. All the cell phone bills that would have accumulated up to July 11th were cash in my pocket. To me, it shows how bad you really want something. Wanting a phone may seem like a ridicules example, but anything can be a goal.
Could you do this same experiment?

It’s been 5 months without a cell phone. As many of you know I’ve been wanting an iPhone for quite awhile. I cancelled my Alltel phone in February, disconnecting myself from everyone and anyone that had my number in the last 2 years or so. Most of my friends and acquaintances are on Facebook, but I learned during that time period it just doesn’t compare to having a cell phone.
It’s time to plug-in and connect with the world again. The plan is to hookup with AT&T and the iPhone 3G.
If I can dig up a camcorder, I’ll try and get some coverage bright and early on Friday. Not expecting a ton of people to be standing in line. Our area doesn’t have 3G coverage yet.
